Before You Load the Car

A few minutes here saves you a wasted trip.

  • Call ahead, because donation policies change often and bins fill up.

  • Check every drawer and folder before you donate or recycle. Cash and old keepsakes turn up in the least likely places.

  • Photograph anything valuable before it leaves the house, especially when you're unsure what it's worth.

  • Measure your doorways and elevator before you promise a large piece to a pickup service.

  • Oasis Clothing Bank (Multiple GTA drop bins) — Gently used clothing, footwear, and linens dropped in bins across the city, supporting addiction recovery programs.

  • New Circles (GLOW Program) (East York / 44 Mobile Dr) — Clean casual clothing, outerwear, and footwear for lower-income families and newcomers.

  • Jessie's Centre (Downtown / 205 Parliament St) — Baby clothes, maternity wear, and clothing for young women and young mothers.

  • Declutter for Diabetes (Diabetes Canada) (GTA-wide) — Free home pickup or drop-bin donation for clothing, footwear, and household textiles.

  • Kidney Clothes (Kidney Foundation of Canada) (GTA-wide) — Pre-worn clothes, coats, and shoes via drop bins or scheduled home pickups.

  • Dress for Success Toronto (North York / 5150 Yonge St) — Professional, interview-ready women's attire and footwear.

  • Pegasus Community Project (Pegasus Thrift Store) (Upper Beaches / 931 Kingston Rd) — Gently used clothing, supporting programs for adults with developmental disabilities.

  • Yonge Street Mission (Double Take Thrift Store) (Cabbagetown / 310 Gerrard St E) — Good-quality clothing, coats, and footwear resold at accessible prices.

  • Parkdale Activity-Recreation Centre (PARC) (Parkdale / 1499 Queen St W) — Clean adult clothing. Sizes L and XL especially needed; no children's clothing.

  • Ontario Federation for Cerebral Palsy (OFCP) (GTA-wide) — Free home pickup for clothing, coats, and shoes, or drop-off at local bins.

  • Scott Mission (Chinatown / 502 Spadina Ave) — Clean everyday clothing and coats during business hours, or scheduled pickup (1–2 week lead time).

  • Covenant House Toronto (Downtown / 20 Gerrard St E) — Gently used winter coats only, for youth in need. Call ahead before dropping off.

  • Value Village (Multiple GTA locations) — For-profit store taking everyday clothing, footwear, and small housewares.

  • Salvation Army Thrift Store (Multiple GTA locations) — Clothing, accessories, and home goods at Donor Welcome Centres across the region.

  • Romero House (West End Toronto) — Clean, in-season clothing for refugee children and adults through their free boutique, plus small household goods like utensils, lamps, and small appliances. Call or email before dropping off, since a small operation fills up fast.

Furniture & Household Goods Donations

  • Furniture Bank (Etobicoke / 60 Etobicoke Loop) — Gently used furniture and housewares to furnish homes for families fleeing violence or displacement. Requires online photo pre-approval; paid pickup available.

  • Habitat for Humanity ReStore GTA (Multiple GTA locations) — Furniture, appliances, cabinets, lighting, and building materials. Pickup available for large donations.

  • Free Geek Toronto (Queen St E) — Computers, laptops, cords, and electronics refurbished for low-income communities or safely recycled.

  • Recycle My Electronics / EPRA (GTA-wide) — Official drop-off network for TVs, audio gear, printers, and old home technology.

  • City of Toronto Drop-Off Depots (Multiple locations) — Residential electronics, monitors, batteries, and appliances free of charge.

  • City of Toronto Toxic Taxi — Free pickup for residential hazardous waste (paint, solvents, chemicals) between 10 and 50 litres or kilograms.

Books, Media & Document Shredding

​

  • Toronto Public Library (Friends of the Library) — Gently used books, CDs, and DVDs for Book Ends store sales. Check current drop-off limits before visiting.

  • BMV Books (Bloor Annex, Yonge & Eglinton, Edward St) — Buys clean, recent books, graphic novels, vinyl, and Blu-rays for store credit or cash.

  • Little Free Library Map (GTA-wide) — For rehoming individual novels and children's books in your own neighbourhood.

  • Staples Canada Shredding (GTA-wide) — In-store secure shredding by the pound. Good for old financial records and tax files.

  • Shred-it Toronto — Professional document destruction, scheduled on-site or off-site, for large estate clear-outs.

  • ALS Canada Equipment Program — Working mobility equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, electric beds) loaned to people living with ALS.

  • March of Dimes Canada — Select assistive devices and mobility gear. Call ahead to confirm current needs.

  • Toronto Humane Society (Riverdale) — Clean bath towels, blankets, flat sheets, pet crates, and unopened food for shelter animals.

  • Toronto Tool Library — Hand tools, power tools, and woodworking equipment shared with community members.
